APM Group has won the 2013 Victoria’s Master Builder of the Year (Commercial) Award for the Centre for Catholic Leadership project in East Melbourne.
“The project was chosen as the cream of the crop from a group of first-class entrants,” said Master Builders Association of Victoria (MBAV) executive director Brian Welch.
The contemporary, purpose-built conference and learning centre is world-class with its two large halls, nine teaching and workshop studios, 45 accommodation units, and dining facilities that can cater for 400 people.
Chief judge Mort Mitchell said the project was chosen for its excellent workmanship, including the complex and innovative interface works between the new building and existing heritage elements, peaceful courtyards and quality internal and external finishes.
Challenges included the groundwater conditions, difficult geographical soil and rock formations and spatial constraints from existing structures.
The chief judge also commented on the numerous well-thought-out solutions and cost savings for the client while meeting all budget and timeline objectives.
The Excellence in Construction Awards recognise leading commercial builders in Victoria. Mr Welch said this year’s entrants were exceptional and the high standard of work showcased across Victoria was a “testament to the commitment to quality epitomised by Master Builders”.
It was a big night, with more than 550 people attending the presentations at the Palladium, Crown.
APM Group will represent Victoria in the Master Builders Australia National Excellence in Building and Design Awards in Canberra on November 16.
